For as big a Bears homer I can be, I've never actually been to training camp before. A few of us have been trying to get down there for the past few years but it's never worked out. There's always an excuse: Work is too busy, There are too many people there on weekends, My heart hurts - call an ambulance. Well , no excuses this year. My buddy Tron and I finally made it down there and I couldn't be more pleased with the decision. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to get geared up for the season or is just looking for something do while ditching out on work (unfortunately, camp already broke so you'll have to wait till next year).
Training Camp Highlights:
Linebackers and Linemen - Tron and I ended up setting up our chairs in between fields two and three. We also just happened to be right in front of the defensive linemen and linebacker practice areas.
Well, just as practice was getting started, the linemen started doing footwork drills. First up, Tommie Harris. First down, Tommie Harris. Tommie ended wiping out halfway through, much to the entertainment of the other linement (especially Alex Brown).
Next door the linebackers were doing punching drills and sprints. Afterward, they started doing pursuit drills. Briggs and Urlacher were up first, with Briggs barely evading the tag. After which, he ran over to us and, with a yell, dove on the the massive cusion they had set-up in front of us.
Well, once the linemen saw what they were doing all kinds of jawing started going back and forth between the two groups. The linemen were saying they wanted a piece of the linebackers, and sure enough, the LBs were happy to oblige.
Quarterbacks - Pep Hamilton had the QBs working on different things, but one of the more memorable was the fade route to the garbage can. Ten yards out, in between the hashes, you have drop back and make the floating pass to the corner of the endzone. It took a while, but only Orton and Pep were able to make it.
Tron and I took a bunch of pics. So if you didn't get a chance to make it to camp check it out and see what you were missing.
